- Motorola has confirmed several specifications of the Razr 2022 ahead of the launch of the foldable device next week.
- The company has revealed the use of a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip and a 3,500mAh battery.
The Motorola Razr was the first clamshell foldable phone to be revealed back in 2019, but Samsung stole a run for the brand thanks to the more polished Galaxy Z Flip series. Motorola is looking to up its game with the Razr 2022, and is now highlighting some of the specs ahead of the upcoming launch.
Starting with slides, Chinese brand revealed on Weibo That the new foldable device will pack a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. This is a welcome change from previous rumors referring to a vanilla Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The Plus processor packs a bit more while touting significant efficiency gains, so we should see better endurance with the same battery capacity than using the vanilla chipset.
Fortunately, we’re getting an upgrade for battery capacity here. Motorola Executive Confirm on Weibo The Razr 2022 will arrive with a 3500 mAh battery. That’s 200mAh bigger than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and 700mAh bigger than the Razr 5G. It’s still quite small for a traditional smartphone, but that size is to be expected for a foldable clamshell. The CEO insisted we’d still see “excellent” battery life though. I think we’ll just have to wait for the review unit to put this claim to the test.
Manufacturer also confirmed That the Razr 2022 outdoor screen could “sit on the same level as the indoor screen,” according to machine translation. This indicates that many applications and tasks can be run on the cover screen in addition to the foldable screen. This will be a welcome addition as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series requires workarounds to run more apps on the external display.
Motorola will launch the new Razr foldable phone along with the flagship X30 Pro phone on August 2. So we don’t have long to wait for all the details to come out.
