What you need to know
- Facebook has begun testing a way to allow users to create additional profiles.
- These profiles will be associated with the user’s original account but will not need a real name.
- Meta may view this new feature as a source of attraction, encouraging more engagement with the platform.
Facebook has announced that it is moving into the testing phase of a new account feature. Users of the social media platform may be able to create multiple profiles if they test positive.
Meta, the company behind Facebook, is aiming for this new test to allow users to create five additional profiles linked to their original accounts. A Meta spokesperson said in an email to Take Crunch. “We’re testing a new way for people who have more than one profile linked to one Facebook account.” Meta may be curious to see if this new test will help users interact more with the site and others who use it.
However, if someone creates another profile, they still have to adhere to Facebook’s guidelines. TechCrunch informs, “If you receive a violation in an additional profile, it will affect your account as a whole.” This can be seen as an attempt to ensure that online trolls cannot create multiple profiles to annoy others with impunity. Another part of this new feature is that Facebook will not ask the user to use their real name on another profile. Thus each additional profile associated with its account can have its own name.
It looks like Facebook is putting a limiter on these additional profiles. The platform will not allow these other profiles to “manage a Page” or participate in Facebook Dating.
It seems that giving users more control over their Facebook accounts and experiences is crawling more and more for the social media platform. Meta has already removed the Quest 2 Facebook account requirement (Opens in a new tab). Meta has also been busy running new tests for Instagram creators (Opens in a new tab) and implementing new security features for teens.
